Catholic Network of Marriage Educators Commitment to Safeguarding in Pre-Marriage Education
WHAT DOES SAFEGUARDING LOOK LIKE IN OUR DIOCESES?
1: Feeling Safe: Safe Spaces
Ensuring that pre-marriage education facilitators do everything in their power to ensure that they foster a safe environment that is welcoming where all whanau feel safe.
2: When something is not right:
Building an awareness of everyone on how they can share any concerns that they may have.
You can ask to stop at any time during the course, if you are becoming overwhelmed and need a break.
3: Sharing the Safeguarding message:
We will find ways to share the Safeguarding message regarding pre-marriage programmes through various channels in our dioceses, (i.e parishes, ethnic communities and chaplaincies). We will be responsive to a couples needs to receive the course in their own language.
4: We will uphold the ‘One Church Principle’ in regards to our safeguarding message:
We are committed to the principles of Safeguarding in pre-marriage education and caring for the vulnerable and those who have experienced abuse or trauma. We are committed to providing emotionally safe courses through our Diocesan offices where couples learn communication skills for a long and lasting marriage.
5: Dignity and Respect:
We as Catholics firmly believe that ‘every person is created in the image and likeness of God’. Creating an environment where everyone is treated with respect and dignity is vital for a Safeguarding culture to flourish and grow.
The Catholic Network of Marriage Educators are committed to upholding the principles of the National Organisation for Professional Standards (NOPS) https://safeguarding.catholic.org.nz/
